“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Galatians (Galatians 5:18-25)
Brethren: If you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are plain: immorality, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger, selfishness, dissension, party spirit, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM  Psalm 1 : 1-2.3.4 and 6 (R. see John 5: l2)
R.
 He who follows you, Lord, will have the light of life.
Blessed indeed is the man
who follows not the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the path with sinners,
nor abides in the company of scorners,
but whose delight is the law of the Lord,
and who ponders his law day and night. R.
He is like a tree that is planted
beside the flowing waters,
that yields its fruit in due season,
and whose leaves shall never fade;
and all that he does shall prosper. R.
Not so are the wicked, not so!
For they, like winnowed chaff,
shall be driven away by the wind.
for the Lord knows the way of the just,
but the way of the wicked will perish. R.

ALLELUIA  John10:27
Alleluia.
 My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord; and I know them, and they follow me. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Woe to you Pharisees! Woe to you lawyers also! ”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 11:42-46)
At that time: Jesus said, “Woe to you Pharisees! for you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. Woe to you Pharisees! for you love the best seat in the synagogues  and salutations in the market places. Woe to you! for you are like graves which are not seen, and men walk over them without knowing it.” One of the lawyers answered him, “Teacher, in saying this you reproach us also.” And he said, “Woe to you lawyers also! for you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.”
The Gospel of the Lord.

Memorial Mass
Entrance Antiphon  Cf. Gal 2: 19-20
With Christ I am nailed to the cross, yet I am alive, though it is no longer I, but Christ who is alive in me. I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me, and gave himself up for me.

Collect
Almighty ever-living God, who adorn the sacred body of your Church with the confessions of holy Martyrs, grant, we pray, that, just as the glorious passion of Saint Ignatius of Antioch which we celebrate today, brought him eternal splendour, so may it be for us unending protection. Through our Lord. . .

FIRST READING
“Our commonwealth is in heaven.”
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Philippians (Philippians 3 : 17-4:1)
Brethren, join in imitating me, and mark those who so walk as you have an example in us. For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies  of the cross  of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. But our commonwealth is in heaven, and from it we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power which enables him even to subject all things to himself. Therefore, my brethren, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in this way in the Lord, my beloved.
The word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 34:2-3.4-5.6-7.8-9 (no. 715, 2)
R. From all my terrors, the Lord set me free.
I will bless the Lord at all times,
praise of him is always in my mouth.
In the Lord my soul shall make its boast;
the humble shall hear and be glad. R.
Glorify the Lord with me;
together let us praise his name.
I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
from all my terrors he set me free. R.
Look towards him and be radiant;
let your faces not be abashed.
This lowly one called; the Lord heard,
and rescued him from all his distress. R.

The angel of the Lord is encamped
around those who fear him, to rescue them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Blessed the man who seeks refuge in him. R

Alleluia  James 1:12
Alleluia,
Blessed the man who endures trial, for when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life. Alleluia.

Gospel
If the grain of wheat dies, it bears much fruit.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John (John 12:24-26)
At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If any one serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there shall my servant be also; if any one serves me, the Father will honour him.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
