Sunday November 11, 2018 Thirty- Second Sunday of the Year Vestment: Green Today’s Rosary: The Glorious Mystery SAINT MARTIN OF TOURS, Bishop (Memorial) Death Anniversary of Archbishop G. G. Ganaka of Jos on 11th Nov 1999 Theme of the Sunday:  Two Widows Who Gave Everything . In the first reading and the gospel today, God asks that all we have must be shared with those in need. The only sacrifice that pleases God says the second reading — is a heart ready to love a heart (i.e. Christ) that shares its very life. The Gloria           Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you ar...

Sunday 4th November Thirty-First Sunday of the Year

Sunday 4th November Thirty-First Sunday of the Year Vestment: Green Today’s Rosary: The Glorious Mystery ST CHARLES BORROMEO, Bishop  (MEMORIAL) KADUNA: Tomorrow is the 46th anniversary of the Episcopal ordination of Most Revd Peter Jatau, Emeritus, 5th November 1972. SHENDAM: Tomorrow is the 1st anniversary of the Episcopal ordination of Most Revd Philip D. Dung, 5th November 2017. Theme of tile Sunday:   Love and Do What you Like!  The presentation of the message of the word of God for this Sunday could begin with the Gospel. Love that comes from God and spreads to all is the synthesis of all commandments. One lives one’s life and comes close to God only when one loves. The first reading teaches us that the law of God is not a hard imposition; it is a gift from the Father to show us the way to happiness. The reading helps us to understand what it means to love God. The second reading is related to this: by giving his life for us, Jesus taught us how we too can l...

Wednesday 31st October Weekday (30) of Ordinary time year B.

Wednesday 31st October Weekday (30)   Vestment: Green Today’s Rosary: The Glorious Mystery FIRST READING “Not as men-pleasers, but as servants of Christ.” A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians (Ephesians 6:1-9) Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honour your father and mother”  (this  is  the  first  commandment  with a promise), “that it may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Slaves, be obedient to those who are your earthly masters, with fear and trembling, in singleness of heart, as to Christ; not in the way of eye-service, as men-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that whatever good any one does, he will receive the same again from the Lord, whether...

Tuesday 30th October Weekday (30) of Ordinary time year B.

Tuesday 30th October Weekday (30) Vestment: Green Today’s Rosary: The Sorrowful Mystery FIRST READING        “This is a great mystery, and I mean in reference to Christ and the Church.” A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians (Ephesians5:21-33) Brethren: Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, be subject to your husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church, his body, and is himself its Saviour. As the Church is subject to Christ, so let wives also be subject in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the Church to himself in splendour, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. Even so husbands should love their wives as their own bodie...

Monday 29th October Weekday (30) of Ordinary time year B.

Monday 29th October Weekday (30) Vestment: Green Today’s Rosary: The Joyful Mystery FIRST READING “Walk in love, as Christ loved us.” A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians (Ephesians 4: 32—5 :8) Brethren: Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. But immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is fitting among saints. Let there be no filthiness, nor silly talk, nor levity, which are not fitting; but instead let there be thanksgiving. Be sure of this, that no immoral or impure man, or one who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for it is because of these things that the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. There...

Sunday 28 October Thirtenth Sunday of the Year B.

Sunday 28 October Thirtenth Sunday of the Year Vestment: Green Today’s Rosary: Glorious Mystery SAINTS SIMON AND JUDE, Apostles Feast Theme of the Sunday:   Enlightened to Follow Christ . The episode of the healing of Bartimaeus in the gospel has a lot to teach about the light that the Christian receives when meeting Christ in Baptism. It is in this sacrament that the eyes of men and women are opened. That is where they understand what it means to follow Christ. The first reading prepares this teaching as it describes the journey of the “blind” people of Israel from slavery to freedom. God himself is their guide. The second reading contains words of consolation for those who, after receiving the light of Christ, follow the Master along the road: he is a travelling ‘companion who can understand our weakness. The Gloria       When indicated this hymn is either sung or said Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We bl...

Saturday 27 October Weekday (29) of Ordinary time year B.

Saturday 27 October Weekday (29) Vestment: White/Green Today’s Rosary: The Joyful Mystery FIRST READING                    Christ is the head from whom the whole body is joined and knit together. A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians (Ephesians 4:7-16) Brethren: Grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore it is said, “When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men.”  (In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is he who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers,  for the equipment of the saints, for the work of ministry, for building up the body  of Christ, until we all att...
